It was the first time my boys had seen her since she had her brain surgery in November. By God's grace, during this visit they found they were spending time with the same Grandma as before her surgery. She immersed herself in their world as soon as she got there.
She spent a good deal of time sorting through Legos to help Nathanael re-build the intricate helicopter that fell apart the day after his dad and I put it together around Christmas time.
She patiently endured as she helped an emotionally-charged, younger brother play a game of Battleship with his sly and cheating older brother
even though the game was a little over his head.
to get in some hits of his own on his big brother.
She fed Levi breakfast.
And we got a bonus with Grandma's visit this time! Her husband's brother, Dave, and his lovely wife were in the area traveling in their motor home all the way from Lincoln, Nebraska! They parked for the weekend at our house and it was great fun getting to know them and their sweet dog, Angel, a little better.
The boys had a blast playing fetch with the dog and trying to ride her like a horse. She was a patient and fun dog who endured the torturous antics of the Pence boys quite well.
Uncle Dave joined us for breakfast one morning.
We had an awesome guest speaker, Chip Ingram, at our church the Sunday morning of her visit. So, while we hadn't been to church on Sunday morning in literally years, we got dressed up in our Sunday best and headed out to church to hear him speak.
He spoke on using our lives, above all else, to love others. It was a fantastic and encouraging word.
Too soon it was time for Grandma to leave. We drove her to the airport
gave hugs and kisses and said goodbye till next time.
I'm sure I've said it before and I'll say it many times over: Glory to GOD for the way He brought my mom through the trial of having a brain tumor. We know she'll be dealing with hearing loss and balance issues and other annoying side effects from her surgery for quite some time. It seems to me, though, that in spite of all that stuff she's blossomed into a sweeter, more patient, and loving grandma and mother. We love her so much and look forward to many, many, many more visits with her no matter how short and sweet she feels they need to be. :) Grandma doesn't stink.
