2014 Awana Grand Prix Car

Josh and Hunter spent a good part of February thinking about, planning, sanding, and painting a little piece of wood and making it into a vehicle to race in our church's annual Awana Grand Prix race.   After pinning a bunch of his favorite designs on Pinterest,
Hunter decided to design it to look like an army vehicle in digital camo with a man holding a gun and poised for battle popping out of the top.
After many nights of work, the finished product was everything Hunter had hoped for.  Both Daddy and Hunter were pleased.   They also lucked out with it coming in just under maximum weight when they weighed it in at church and left it there the Wednesday before the night of the big race.
The race was on Friday, February 21st.
Here's Hunter and his friend since babyhood, Christopher,
ready to get serious and rumble on race night.
The folks at our church have an awesome set-up for the race complete with a super-cool track that races four cars at a time.  There are two screens on the stage that show the times of the cars that just raced and the four cars that will be racing up next.
There's a really nice, display area where all cars must remain
unless they are being raced or up on stage awaiting the next race.
Our wonderful preschool director, Ms. Beverly, set up a little race track on the side for little ones to race matchbox cars on.  Levi was glued to this area and spent almost the entire evening there.  He had so much fun!
Hunter's buddy, Nicholas, was able to come and support Hunter as he raced his vehicle.
We were so happy to have him there with us!
Here's Hunter setting up his vehicle to race in one of the heats.
There were several heats throughout the night and 3 different categories of racers.
Two categories for clubbers and one adult category.
Hunter's car raced in 4 heats.
He came in first all but once, when he came in second.
At the end of the night he was excited to hear his name called
when the awards began to be handed out for his category.
He came in sixth place for speed!
We were so happy that his vehicle was recognized!
We were also excited to have won a gift card to ChickFilA in one of the many prize drawings they had that night.

Next year Nathanael will be old enough to race a vehicle, so daddy will have TWO cars to work with his boys on!  What fun!!  :)  We are so thankful for our daddy and all the hard work he puts into making it so our boys can participate in such exciting activities!
