First Time Camping, Valentines, and A Ladies Man

Levi is quite the ladies man at Classical Conversations.  His bubbly personality attracts lots of pretty girls.  His favorites at CC, though are Mrs. LeMay's daughters Hannah and Lizzy.
Whenever he sees them he runs up to them to say "Hi" and give them a hug.  And they always give him lots of attention at recess with tickles and hugs and playing ball with him.  We are so appreciative of the caring girls that give Levi such quality attention.  :)
In the month of February Hunter studied about his favorite subject, World War II, at CC two weeks in a row!  In this photo all of the students were given a flag representing a country involved in WW II.  He got Germany.  He was quite sinister in singing the history song while this activity was going on.
In science he and his classmates also studied aspects of what makes a successful, paper airplane.  By far, Hunter's favorite science activity yet.
We watched the Ken Ham and Bill Nye debate one evening in February on the computer.  It took place at The Creation Museum where Daddy took Hunter and Nathanael for a visit a few summers ago.  Hunter also had the opportunity to meet Ken Ham when he was at our church a year or two ago.   It was a neat experience to watch the debate live in our home.
We had plans to visit a nursing home the day before Valentine's day.
Hunter and I spent a few hours making homemade card for the residents.

I am so happy to have a son that's willing to learn how to serve others.
He did a great job making the cards with me and
while we ended up not being able to go deliver the cards in person due to a bad cold,
we heard that the residents really enjoyed the cards we made them.
Nathanael's Valentines this year were bouncy balls.  We made labels for them that said, "Have A BALL this Valentine's Day!"  He wrote all the names of his classmates on each label and signed his name.  It was a lot of work, but he was excited to give them to his classmates on Valentine's Day!
We had some nice, cool days in February and Daddy decided it was a good time to pitch a tent in the back yard and camp overnight with the boys.

They had never slept in a tent before and were VERY excited for the opportunity.  We broke out Daddy's 4-part, battery-operated lantern that he got for Christmas and were ready to rough it in the rugged, outdoor wilderness of our back yard.
Their "roughing it" experience included watching the movie Planes for the very first time on mommy's Ipad surrounded by their favorite stuffed animals. Then, Daddy let them eat cookies and drink soda.  Levi came in to sleep in his own bed before the movie finished and the boys were back in the house by 7:15 the next morning as it was very chilly!  They said they slept great and were toasty warm in their sleeping bags and they can't wait to do it again.  Yay! for backyard camp outs!

On one of the beautiful days in February Daddy had a rare day off.
So, we headed out to a local park to hike on the boardwalk around a cute, little pond.
The boys had fun racing together down an incline on the boardwalk
Nathanael was the fastest!
The boys took some time away from the hike to rough house on the grass.
Ankle biter.
Nathanael's kindergarten class took a trip to the zoo in February.  Prior to the trip he was given the assignment to do a research report on cheetahs!  How fun!!   He had to write three sentences about cheetahs and come up with a visual item to show what the animal looked like.  I found an easy cut-out of a cheetah online somewhere and he colored it.  Then after watching a Wild Kratts show on Cheetahs and reading a little bit about them on a National Geographic website, he wrote the following sentences about them:
  • Cheetahs are very fast and make sharp turns.
  • Cheetahs can zig zag and run 70 miles per hour.
  • Cheetahs have flexible backs.
Nathanael's Cheetah report was on display outside his classroom on the night we attended his student-led conference.  Nathanael showed daddy and I all the things he's learning and working on in school.  He read his guided reading book to us
and did a great job showing us the progress he's making in kindergarten.
Another person that's doing a great job with his learning is Mr. Levi!  Check out the backwards letter "g" he made on the right side of our chalkboard!   Hunter sometimes takes time in the mornings to show Levi how to make his letters while I'm doing kitchen clean-up.  While this may have been a fluke, we were still very encouraged by the look of it!  :)
The week after we missed a visit to the nursing home for Valentine's day due to illness, we had an opportunity to make it up and headed there with some fellow homeschoolers.    Hunter helped some of the residents make a craft to hang on the door handle of their room.  He got to make one for himself and Levi too, but Levi was fascinated by the whole thing and managed to pull 90% of the letters and stickers off of theirs by the time we got home.
And then we walked around handing out encouragement cards and showing our smiles
and telling people that God loves them!
Levi was a hoot and didn't have a shy bone in his body as he walked up to anyone and everyone saying "Hi!" and shaking their hand.  Hunter did a great job supervising and making sure Levi stayed where he was supposed to.  He was more serious and reserved as he greeted the residents, but still did a great job and showed them love.  I was so proud of both of them and hope we get another opportunity to go.
One weekend afternoon while daddy was working overtime we painted pictures at the kitchen table.  Levi is so proud and anxious to do any activity that his big brothers do.  :)
My favorite online photo processor had a big sale on all sorts of sizes and I finally got around to updating the boys' picture frame with the photos we took for our Christmas card back in October.  My how they've grown since 2012!   Sniff..sniff.  I cherish these years with my boys and am so blessed and thankful to be home with them and not missing a moment as they grow into handsome, godly young men.
