Levi Didn't Get the Memo

that a day last week was a BIG day in his life, as it's been in all the lives of the Pence boys as they attend this one-of-a kind, multi-sensory experience at our local library!!   We're talkin' TODDLER STORY TIME, baby!!  You can see a post of his brother, Nathanael, enjoying the same thing a few years ago here.
So, no.  Levi didn't know what in the world we were doing and how special and important this day was in his little, toddler life.  I guess his hair didn't get the memo either, so it didn't cooperate for the occasion despite the fact that there were many pictures that needed to be taken of the experience.

Mr. Levi also didn't have any idea what all this sitting-on-a-carpet-square business was about and didn't see the fact that all the other 20+ toddlers in the room already had it well figured out that the carpet squares were a magical piece of something that caused them STAY right where there mommies put them.  No.  Mr. Levi did not figure this during his very first toddler story time experience.  We are hopeful for next time, though.  :)

He did, however, figure out the most awesome "Roll the Ball" song that Ms. Karen sang as she rolled the ball to everyone and he was so excited to roll it back to her when it was his turn.

Now, you will notice that there is a big, blank space here where there should be several pictures of Levi standing and clapping and dancing on his carpet square and listening intently to the two short stories told by Ms. Karen.

But, you don't see those pictures here because his mommy was way too focused on keeping him from toddling off with his toddler self to places such as the table filled with carefully laid out craft supplies for Ms. Karen's next preschool class and then yanking them off of her table.   Or taking the cute, little, black, felt spot to use during a poem and then proceeding to put it in his mouth, spit it out on the floor several times and then place it on some random cart off to the side of the room instead of on the picture of the felt dalmation that Ms. Karen was holding out in the middle of the floor.  That's where all the other toddlers knew it went and that's where they put it when she directed them to do so.   *Sigh*

Yes.  Levi's mommy (and big brother too) were too busy keeping him where his little toddler tushie belonged to take any pictures of the fun, song and story action.

The good news is that Levi figured out how to put that useless carpet square back in the pile after story time was over, thanks to the help of his big brother, who became experienced in this task when he was a toddler story time regular.
And Levi DID figure out how to take that precious, paper fire truck out of the most-awesomest-children's-librarian-ever Ms. Karen's hand, though!
Ms. Karen was so excited for him, with this being his first story time ever, that she allowed him to keep the second paper fire truck that he helped himself to snatching right out of her hand.  Love her!  Truly.

He marched proudly out of the classroom with both of his paper fire trucks and proceeded to lose them within about two minutes of us being in the actual children's library as Hunter picked out some  books to read for his week of homeschooling.  Too bad.  So sad.  :(

Levi must have started to figure out that it was a very special day, though, because when we got home
he managed to get his foot stuck in our wipes-container-turned-finger-puppet-holder.
And that was a very special thing too.

Hahaa!! Don't feel bad. Josiah still can't sit for a story time at the library or Chick fil A. At the library all he wanted to do was inspect the random, boring closet in the room. At Chick fil A he was obsessed with the fire extinguisher and wouldn't leave it alone. And he just doesn't go to those things any more because I have Owen to chase around!
